Gel Type Tutorial


Step 1: choose dark blue as your foreground color. Use the type tool to type your text.

Step 2: Switch your foreground color to a lighter shade of blue. In the layers palette Apple + click on your type layer t put a selection around your type. Create  new layer by clicking on the bottom of the layers palette.

Step 3: Go under the select menu, under Modify and choose contract. When the contract dialogue box appears, enter two pixels, and click Ok. Press Option + Delete to fill your contracted  selection with light blue.

Step 4: Deselect by pressing apple + d. Duplicate this layer by pressing apple + j. Go under the filter menu under Blur choose Gaussian blur. When the box appears enter three pixels click Ok.

Step 5:  Choose bevel and emboss from the layer styles. For styles choose emboss increase depth to 300 and size to 12. under shading increase the highlight opacity to 40%. Change the shadow Mode to color Dodge. CLick on black Swatch change it to white click Ok.

Step 6: in the layers palette, click on the eye icon beside the Background layer to hide it from view. Choose Merge Visible from the palettes drop down menu. Choose drop shadow from the palettes pop up styles menu and click Ok to apply a drop shadow and complete the effect.
